Highlight Recipe: Mung Dal Halwa (yellow mung beans dessert)


TWCT is glad to publish its highlight recipe number 1 today, Mung Dal Halwa (yellow mung beans dessert) by Mrs. Aparna Naidu Kumar from Mumbai, India. This is a dessert which is rich and every bite will just bring a smile on your face.

Recipe Follows.


Ingredients - 
  • 1 cup mung beans/lentils ( wash thoroughly and soak for 3-4 hours )
  • 1 cup sugar 
  • 1 cup ghee (Clarified butter) 
  • 3 cups water
  • 4-5 cardamom powder ,Saffron and few almonds

Method-

  • Grind mung beans/lentils with little water in to a fine paste 
  • Boil water -add sugar ,saffron and cardamon powder.keep it aside once the sugar dissolves.
  • In a heavy bottom pan heat ghee (Clarified butter) add mung beans/lentils paste and keep stirring until it changes color to light brown.
  • Add sugar saffron water to the well roasted mung beans/lentils paste. 
  • Cover it for 2-3 minutes then keep stirring till the ghee leaves the pan .
  • Garnish with chopped sliced almonds.
