Highlight Recipe: Daal Parathas (Flat bread stuffed with lentils)


TWCT is glad to publish its highlight recipe Daal Parathas (Flat bread stuffed with lentils) by Mrs. Subasana Sarma, from Assam India. Daal Parathas are a popular choice of breakfast and it is a wholesome meal.

Recipe Follows

Ingredients for the dough

  • 1 cup whole wheat flour
  • 2 tsp oil
  • 1 tsp salt
  • For the filling-
  • 1/2 cup mung daal (soaked)
  • 1/2 tsp cumin seeds
  • 1/8 tsp turmeric powder
  • A pinch of asafoetida
  • 1/2 tsp chili powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • 1 tsp kitchen king masala
  • 2 tsp oil
  • Salt as required
  • Ghee as per need (clarified butter)
Directions-

  • Sieve the flour and kneed to soft dough by adding water as required.keep aside.
  • Drain the daal and cook in 1 cup of water.Heat oil in a pan,add the cumin seeds and asafoetida.
  • When the seeds splutter,add the cooked daal,salt,turmeric powder,chili powder,coriander powder,kitchen king masala and mix well.Cook till the daal mixture is dry.Let it cool.
  • Make small rounds of the dough.Roll each round dough balls and flatten it and some fillings into the center.
  • Seal the dough from all sides and roll the dough as thin as you can very carefully.
  • Heat ghee in a frying pan and fry the parathas until it's done on both sides.
  • Enjoy with your favorite pickle, chutney or raita
